Matthew Shumate, a Rhode Island native and Suffolk University graduate currently serves as Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor on Legislative Affairs to Mayor Jorge Elorza. Shumate has worked for the City of Providence since May 2015 serving previously as Director of Mayoral Advance, Deputy Director of Partnerships and Intergovernmental Affairs, and Deputy Director of Operations & Municipal Liaison to the Providence City Council. Shumate currently sits on several boards including The Hope Academy, the Economic Progress Institute, Community Action Partnership of Providence (CAPP) and the Gordon School Head’s Advisory Council.
