Tracy McCaughey

Managing Director, Claims Operations

R.I.S.E. Women’s Leadership Conference
Bio: Tracy McCaughey
In 1983, Tracy began her career at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) as supervisor of the claims department, a role she held for three years before leaving to gain more leadership experience at a number of healthcare-focused organizations including HMO Rhode Island, Physicians Health Services and Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island. Tracy returned to BCBSRI in 2005 to lead the grievance and appeals unit and then went on to become corporate compliance officer in 2016. After six years of leading the organization’s compliance and regulatory efforts, Tracy was appointed managing director of claims operations in March 2021.

During her tenure at BCBSRI, Tracy has spearheaded a number of process changes to significantly improve daily operations and communications for various functions. Tracy also serves as executive sponsor of the Black Council @ Blue employee business resource group, guiding the EBRG’s leadership as they work to help associates achieve professional success through enhancing their understanding and practice of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Being a mentor is not part of Tracy’s formal job description, but she believes people who are successful in their own lives and careers have a responsibility to advance the professional and personal development of their colleagues. Tracy’s passion for seeking out the potential in others and creating opportunities for them to succeed was a principal reason she was named Outstanding Mentor as part of Providence Business News’ 2021 Business Women Awards. Tracy also serves as the president of the board of directors of the Women’s Resource Center, a nonprofit organization that helps people who are experiencing domestic violence.
