Tailee Ortiz, Eighth Grader/Class of 2022, Sophia Academy

Hello, my name is Tailee Ortiz and I’m an eighth grade student at Sophia Academy, an all girls school in Providence, RI. I’ve had a great experience in the last 4 years I’ve been attending Sophia. Being here has given me a perspective on women’s empowerment. Women of color are treated differently from white women because of racism and sexism. Teachers assisted me in realizing how much power I have, especially as a Hispanic woman, to use my voice to help alter circumstances in the future as a young woman. Programs we do at Sophia like “Women of Wisdom” introduce us to women such as Stacey Abrams, Latsany Lopez( a Sophia Graduate), and Mai Donohue, who discussed their experiences of girl’s education and their involvement in advocating for women. These women inspire me to take advantage of my voice and utilize it for the greater good.
