Ting Barnard
Owner & Founder, Ting Barnard’s Studio
Three words that come to mind when describing Ting Barnard are fashion, philanthropy and perseverance. Born in Laos, she immigrated to Providence with her parents and three siblings as refugees fleeing war strife when she was just a year old. As a child, she learned about kindness and compassion from the sponsors who helped her family when they first came to this country, and as an adult, she’s made it her life’s mission to give back to others in need.
Ting is philanthropically involved in several local organizations, including serving on the Board of Governors for Leadership Rhode Island, enlisting as a mentor for Year Up and serving on the Board for several important arts organizations and events, including the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra and Music School and StyleWeek. She’s actively involved with Children’s Friend, SEED Innovation Meets Education, the Lincoln School, Sophia Academy and College Leadership Rhode Island, for which she most often serves as a mentor to students. She also served as Leadership Rhode Island’s Program Co-Chair for the 2016 Mu II Class and serves as a Strengths Coach.
A 2002 graduate of Boston University, Ting started a ten-year finance career straight out of college, working for big financial firms, including Boldwater Capital Management, Deutsche Asset Management and Lehman Brothers in Boston and New York City. She shifted careers into fashion, marketing and philanthropy, and now owns Ting Barnard’s Studio in Downtown Providence, a creative space where individuals, businesses and ideas are connec-“ting,” communica-“ting,” and collabora- “ting” to create something positive and powerful. Ting’s work consists of amplifying the voices of local individuals and stories through meaningful impact.
The wife of renowned local photographer Ian Travis Barnard, and mother to eleven-year-old aspiring singer, astrophysicist and mini-philanthropist, Victory, Ting hopes to inspire others to give back and stay actively involved in their community. She embodies her motto to “Love where you live!”
