Director, Community Engagement
Adriana Dawson (she, her, hers, ella) is a nationally recognized bilingual/bicultural leader with 20+ years of demonstrated results at the intersection of community and business development.
Ms. Dawson is the Director of Community Engagement for Verizon. In this role, she is responsible for leading and expanding Verizon’s partnership network and community footprint in Rhode Island, overseeing the Verizon Foundation and Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, and building Verizon volunteer opportunities in her market.
Prior to joining Verizon, Ms. Dawson was the Vice President of Community Development at BankNewport. She was responsible for implementing and administering all strategic aspects of the Bank’s Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) Program. She spearheaded the Bank’s urban expansion efforts and successfully led BankNewport through its CRA federal examination.
Ms. Dawson has held leadership roles at Roger Williams University and served as the first female State Director for the Rhode Island Small Business Development Center where she was recognized nationally for her work with minority and women owned businesses. She currently serves on a number of statewide boards dedicated to improving the economic self-sufficiency of individuals and families.
Ms. Dawson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from Northeastern University and holds a Master of Arts in Management Communication from Emerson College. She is also a member of the 2021 Leadership Rhode Island cohort, Rho II.
She is a proud Rhode Island native and currently resides in Pawtucket with her husband and daughter.
